Twelve Acts is the latest project by artist Wang Yiquan, specifically proposed for B6C Online Artist Residency program. For 12 consecutive weeks, the artist will create videos and audios and release them on the B6C WeChat platform and these intangible online presentations will eventually create a twelve-act play.Twelve Acts is inspired by the artist’s research in the concept of act in the dramatic arts. In this project, Wang applies the concept of a multi-act structure to the method of organizing a contemporary art exhibition. In doing so, the artist attempts to unveil the correlation between the performance and the visual art. In the following three months, Wang will research and experiment extensively on the artistic creations based on Internet and computer, and these new types of working methods and creative processes will be presented through social media, in this case, the B6C public WeChat. In the final week of the residency, Wang Yiquan will present his solo show titled Closing Ceremony in the Basement 6 bunker.
Artist Biography 艺术家简介
Wang Yiquan was born in 1987 in Beijing, where he graduated from Beijing International Studies University and Central Academy of Fine Arts before attending Central Saint Martins in London. His artistic practice combines complexity and diversity, concentrating in performance, object and text, three independent yet correlative fields. His works and performances have been shown in Penghao Theatre (2014), am art space(2013), Arrow Factory’s The Meeting Room exhibition(2012), The Black Box in the ninth Shanghai Biennale (2012), and Today Art Museum(2012). In addition to being an artist, Wang also writes intensively about art, and his essays and reviews have been published in BLOUIN ARTINFO, Arforum Chinese edition and Art World Magazine among other publications. He now lives in Shanghai.
